And tip of the helmet to Little Bellas for their May 5, 2014 contribution of 13 helmets to students of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy in East Salinas! To learn more, see the school’s individual listing in http://bit.ly/KidsBikeToSchool

For 2014, Little Bellas Day Camp for girls ages 8-13: Signup for 1, 2, or 3 days. No Sunday girls race camp for ages 14-17 in 2014, but Lea Davison provided this 2015 alert for teen girls: Watch for 2015 pre-Sea Otter Classic activities!

Then check the Children and Teens section at Bicycling Monterey for more opportunities for girls, and boys, to bike in Monterey County.

Not only does Sea Otter Classic bring an estimated 20 million dollars to the local economy every spring, it helps cut health care costs by inspiring kids like Madison (and adults!) to bike.

Thank you, Sea Otter and Little Bellas, for your inspiration and support for visiting and local kids.

The below was previously published in 2012.

Are you raising a powerful girl?  The Davison sisters are with you on that.

They’re returning to Monterey County for the Sea Otter Classic. That’s why so many local and visiting girls are getting super excited!

Girls ages 8-14  are invited to attend one, two, or all three days of  Little Bellas Sea Otter Day Camp with Lea and Sabra Davison.

Check it out below, then visit Sea Otter Classic’s Little Bellas page in the Festival Guide for more information.

Read Nic Coury’s story, “Mentoring on Mountain Bikes” in the Monterey County Weekly.

A famous Little Bellas game, Dab

Lea and Sabra Davison, pro mountain bikers and sisters, have a very special program that they are bringing to the west coast for the third year:  Little Bellas day camp at the Sea Otter Classic.

The four photos shown here are from 2010, Little Bellas first year at Sea Otter.

The photo below is lunch break for the Little Bellas with pro cyclists Georgia Gould, Amy Dombroski, Sabrina Jonnier, Lea Davison, and Joanna Petterson.  They don’t just eat with pros though, they bike with them, too.  That’s what this day camp is all about!

Bike cleaning at the end of the day.

Girls will hone their mountain biking skills, whether they are brand new or ready for a new challenge.  The focus will be having fun and improving skills, and girls will be grouped by age and ability.

An additional focus will be feeling right at home at the Sea Otter Classic, mountain biking’s biggest festival and one of the world’s largest bike festivals.  Girls will have a full-access pass for Sea Otter festival activities, and they’ll have the chance to meet and learn from mentors who are among the world biking community’s favorite pros.

What calibre of instruction?

Oh, and speaking of pros:  It’s looking good for Lea Davison, a Specialized pro rider, to be at the 2012 London Olympics.  (See “Seventeen mountain bikers  named to U.S. Olympic Long Team:  Eight men and nine women are candidates for racing 2012 Olympics” in Cycling News.  Stay tuned!)
