Support the bicycling revolution: Be part of the Bicycling Monterey work

Journalist Karen Kefauver (below, forefront at left) wrote in Bicycling Monterey’s’ third year: “Your website has started a revolution in Santa Cruz. We want to launch a site like yours – but we imagine we need 10 people at least to launch what you have done.”

The Monterey County visitor at left below exclaimed: “Monterey is very bike friendly!”
Bike industry professional Ray Keener agrees: “Monterey gets more bike friendly every year, and [Bicycling Monterey’s founder] is one of the main reasons why!”
Read on for how you can be part of this

BICYCLING REVOLUTION!

Bicycling Monterey’s 10th year was completed May 2019 (for a little history, click here, and check out some photos below.
Bicycling Monterey serves as a local partner of the California Bicycle Coalition, helping fill the gap because there’s no official bicycling coalition for Monterey County, or for the Monterey Bay Tri-County Region, as of May 2019. Among resources compiled by Bicycling Monterey’s founder is a 33-section DIRECTORY: Monterey County Bicycling Resources / Bike Community Leaders.

The Bicycling Monterey site and projects, although appreciated by many, remain a labor of love.  Total financial contributions average just $3 per day. The founder’s work May 2009-May 2019 is as an unpaid volunteer.
Perhaps you saw some of the hundreds of laminated posters provided by Bicycling Monterey’s founder that were in store windows and other locations in Bicycling Monterey’s early years. Wonder why they aren’t provided regularly now? Providing such materials takes both money and time.
If contributing money isn’t possible for you, consider one or more of many possible volunteer roles. Not sure how you’re best suited to volunteer on bike advocacy? Phone Bicycling Monterey to chat about your interests and abilities, and to learn what’s most needed at this time.
Among volunteer help needed is for the many tasks of the long-term project launched Nov 2009, HER Helmet Thursdays. That project has ongoing, year-round tasks, such as outreach to new businesses and organizations, and contacts with those already participating. Year-round, database updates are done. Annual chores include, e.g., updates to the guide (9th Anniversary Edition – HER Helmet Thursdays Guide – Participants as of 23 November 2018), the Staff Reference Sheet, and more.

Below, Geoff Arnold, a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor is a Central Coast YMCA board member and is among Bicycling Monterey’s volunteers, contributors of project supplies, and financial contributors. Please follow his lead by pitching in to support the Bicycling Monterey work.
