As announced in the April 2017 minutes of TAMC’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Advisory Committee, page 9—http://www.tamcmonterey.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BPC_Agenda_PACKET_May_2017.pdf, the above five were selected to receive Golden Helmet Awards for 2017.
*Mari is grateful to the nominators and the committee for recognizing her bike advocacy volunteerism—the Bicycling Monterey website and other Bicycling Monterey projects—as an Adult Individual. She offered an option to further highlight Mike’s achievements by announcing him alone as recipient in the Adult Individuals category, and moving her to the Program/Event category, highlighting just one of the Bicycling Monterey projects, HER Helmet Thursdays.

For Bike Month 2017, this awards program returned. TAMC modified the program in 2017 to include four categories, with a Golden Helmet Award for each category, and no Silver Helmet Awards. As advised by Ariana Green of TAMC, “The focus is [now] more on bicycle advocacy than just recognizing a bicycle commuter and also recognizes youth involved in bicycling. There is no limit to the number of nominations an individual may send in.” The 2017 categories: (1) youth; (2) adult individual; (3) group/organization; (4) program/event.

Bicycle and community advocates: Nominations for the second annual Golden Helmet Award are due to the Transportation Agency Friday, April 1, 2011.
The Golden Helmet Award, as part of the 2011 Monterey County bike week events, will recognize a Monterey County resident for his/her dedication to bicycling to and from work.
The aim of this award is to highlight the benefits of bicycle commuting and inspire others to utilize alternative transportation modes. The winner will be recognized on April 27, 2011 at the Transportation Agency for Monterey County’s Board of Directors meeting, and will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to a local bike shop of their choice.
