Voting as Climate Action
Bicycling Monterey extends respect to everyone who takes time to inform themselves about candidates and issues, then votes according to their own beliefs and conscience.
Regardless of your political party affiliation (or if, like us, you are a registered “No Party Preference” voter), we will appreciate your considering the following when voting in the November 5, 2024 U.S. General Election.
Many people who consider earth stewardship and climate action a top priority see a sobering difference between the two major party candidates for the next U.S. President.
Extreme weather events in the USA are on the minds of many Americans. The work of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)— also known as America’s environmental intelligence agency (https://www.noaa.gov/about-our-agency)—includes such missions as flying into the eyewall of Hurricane Helene. https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/news/sep24/ngs-storm-imagery-helene.html.
Take a look at NOAA on Climate Change https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/climate-change-impacts-are-increasing-for-americans and Climate Justice https://www.noaa.gov/education/resource-collections/climate/climate-change-impacts.
Then consider: “Project 2025…was written by several former [POTUS 45] administration officials….Project 2025 includes about four pages on NOAA and the National Weather Service. That part was written by Thomas F. Gilman, who was an official in [POTUS 45’s] Commerce Department. The document describes NOAA as a primary component ‘of the climate change alarm industry’ and said it ‘should be broken up and downsized.’”
