Standing Up to Big Oil
Another Global Climate Strike to end the era of fossil fuels happened September 20. https://fridaysforfutureusa.org/sept-20/
On September 21 Ben Jealous, executive director of the Sierra Club, former president and CEO of the NAACP, and a Monterey County native, will not be speaking at the 52nd Annual NAACP Monterey County Life Membership Banquet. Instead, he is standing up to big oil.
“For chapters and branches to accept fossil fuel blood money and then oppose clean energy initiatives—or insist their event honorees and speakers not cause ‘discomfort’ to the industry that is killing our planet and people—is a betrayal of the entire mission of the NAACP.” —Ben Jealous
“The local NAACP asked Ben Jealous, Sierra Club’s national leader, if he was willing to acquiesce to Chevron. He said no.” Pam Marino, Monterey County Now, 9/19/24 https://www.montereycountynow.com/opinion/mcnow_intro/the-local-naacp-asked-ben-jealous-sierra-club-s-national-leader-if-he-was-willing/article_8c1b527c-76e0-11ef-88f6-574227467d24.html
