Rest stop tip: Jay Bartow Memorial Garden, Monterey
Bicycling Monterey has reminded city planners and others about the importance of rest stops for people who use active transportation (e.g., walk, bike, scoot, skate). Now there’s a beautiful, peaceful new rest stop near downtown Monterey.
The Jay Bartow Memorial Garden
at First Presbyterian Church
501 El Dorado, Monterey
FPC welcomes residents of their neighborhood and other passersby—and the community as a whole—to visit the garden and enjoy quiet moments of renewal in this tranquil setting.
There is a bike rack at the garden’s entrance, where you can park your bike while you stroll the garden path, or sit and relax on a bench, or—if you brought a snack or lunch—sit at a picnic table and replenish your body, as well as your spirit.
When you pedal away, you’ll surely feel refreshed by having paused on your ride to experience this quiet rest stop at solar-powered, bike-friendly First Presbyterian Church, Monterey.
Look for a sign “First Presbyterian Church” at FPC’s driveway/bikeway entrances (pictured below). The garden is directly between El Dorado Street and the church’s main building / sanctuary, where most services take place.
