Fleet & Family Support: Family Fun Day, including bicycling information and support
The United States Navy’s Fleet & Family Support Center-Monterey organized a Family Fun Day at La Mesa Village in Monterey on July 21, 2017. The all-free activities—open to active-duty military, reservists, military retirees, and their families—included bicycling information and support provided by volunteers Geoff Arnold and Mari Lynch. Riding skills, safety, bike laws and other tips were provided, along with some bicycle helmet fit adjustments.
Missed this event? Find answers to some of the common questions on the bikemonterey.org website, including about sidewalk safety and local sidewalk ordinances, biking tips for children and teens, where to bike in Monterey County, local biking activities and events, biking to school, what to do when bike racks on Monterey-Salinas buses are full, additional bike-and-ride tips, and other bike-related topics. Other questions? Feel free to phone Mari.
Special thanks to Geoff for teaming up with Mari for Family Fun Day. Geoff is among Monterey County’s LCIs and other bike community leaders and is a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor, LCI #5437.
Take-home resources shared at Family Fun Day included California bike law summaries, share-the-road tips, and helmet-fitting tips, as well as the following items contributed for this event by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County: “Team Monterey County” stickers; Monterey County bike maps; TAMC bike bells; and pocket-sized League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling “Quick Guides.”
Thank you to Tricia Williams, R.N. of the Fleet & Family Support Center for contacting Bicycling Monterey for bike safety information and for the invitation to participate in this event.
