People who biked to Window on the Bay, Monterey on Flag Day 2025
On 2025’s Flag Day, June 14, “at least five thousand people”* gathered at Window on the Bay waterfront park, and along the opposite side of Del Monte Avenue, in Monterey. As was likewise happening in communities in all fifty states of the United States—including in Salinas, the Monterey County seat—people gathered peacefully on what some also referred to this year as No Kings Day.
As they exercised their Constitutional right to peacefully assemble—one of the rights established by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States—some used a bicycle as transportation to reach these gatherings. We appreciate their action to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions! See some such folks below, at Window on the Bay, Monterey.

Children, of course! 🙂

Flag Etiquette
Many people are unfamiliar with the U.S. Flag Code and flag etiquette. In 1942 Congress passed and amended a joint resolution that encompassed what has come to be known as the U.S. Flag Code.
For example, why might you see a flag displayed upside down (union/stars down)? This is a signal of dire distress.
There are many official and unofficial resources about flag etiquette. “U.S. Flag Code: Etiquette, Rules, and Guidelines” by Catherine Boeckman in https://www.almanac.com/us-flag-etiquette-rules-and-guidelines provides a convenient overview. As Boeckman notes, following the Flag Code is voluntary and meant as a guideline.

People who biked to that great event had some great signs.
So glad they were a part of the event.
Let’s all continue to show up — it matters!!!
