Regional Transportation Plan, Monterey County 2014 Draft

Having maps showing paths, lanes, and routes for people who bike is helpful–especially when they reflect ever-improving infrastructure in an increasingly bike friendly county!

Before desired outcomes, there is first a methodical process. This includes a 20-year “road map” (learn more below). And public comment in this process, from you and others, will result in better outcomes!

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Coordinator for the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, is again actively seeking input from the bike community and others. Want better bike/walk infrastructure?  It’s a prime time to share your ideas. Yes, now!

Here’s what’s up, and how you can help.

The Transportation Agency for Monterey County has released a Draft of the 2014 Monterey County Regional Transportation Plan for public review.

Your comments, in writing, are requested at the earliest possible opportunity, and no later than April 8, 2014!

Public hearing

In addition to inviting comments immediately, and through April 8th, TAMC will also hold a public hearing on the Draft 2014 Regional Transportation Plan. The purpose of the public hearing is to help gather public testimony on the plan.

• When: Wednesday, March 26, 2014 – 9 a.m., TAMC Board of Directors meeting (public is invited)

What is…

the Draft 2014 Monterey County Regional Transportation Plan?

• The Regional Transportation Plan serves as a 20-year “road map”/plan for meeting the long-term transportation needs of Monterey County.
• The plan establishes goals and policy objectives for meeting needs and evaluating projects; a fund estimate identifying transportation revenues expected over the life of the plan; and a list of projects to be funded within the constraints of forecasted revenues.
• The plan serves as the first step in acquiring federal and state funding for transportation projects.
• The plan is coordinated with the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, which has prepared a Monterey Bay 2035: Moving Forward Plan for the tri-county Monterey Bay region (Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties). AMBAG has also prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report assessing the possible environmental impacts of these plans. (Need a paper copy? Contact TAMC, 831/775-0903.)
