10th year for the Bicycling Monterey website and projects begins May 2018
Bicycling Monterey’s anniversary month is May, and May 2018 begins the 10th year. See what people say about the value of the Bicycling Monterey website and other Bicycling Monterey projects.
- From May 1, 2009 through May 1, 2018, Bicycling Monterey founder Mari Lynch, a resident of rural Monterey County since 1981, has provided the website and all other Bicycling Monterey projects as an unpaid volunteer. Read “Day in the Life of a Bike Advocate” for a tiny glimpse into how well over 10,000 all-volunteer hours have been given by Bicycling Monterey’s founder to inspire, encourage, and support more bicycling because of the multiple benefits of bicycling, for people and the planet.

- Bicycling Monterey is recognized as an ally of the California Bicycle Coalition. The founder has been featured by the League of American Bicyclists, was selected as a national finalist for the Alliance for Biking and Walking’s 2014 Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm Award, and is the recipient of a 2011 Transportation Excellence Award and a 2017 Golden Helmet Award from the Transportation Agency for Monterey County.
- As of May 1, 2018, there is not yet an official bicycle coalition for Monterey County, or for the Monterey Bay Tri-County region. Monterey County has an increasingly strong and diverse bike community, as reflected in the 33-section directory of Monterey County bike community leaders and resources. Bicycling Monterey helps bring these and other biking resources to the public’s attention.
- Bicycling Monterey serves as a bicycling information hub for Monterey County’s approximately 437,000 residents and its millions of visitors (an estimated 4.6 million overnight visitors annually, as well as millions of day visitors).
- Bicycling Monterey also provides resources and inspiration for people who bike anywhere, such as the riding skills and safety section (which also includes CA bike laws), the Spanish resources compilation, and much more.
