Act on Climate: Monterey Bay Chapter, Climate Reality Project
A Monterey Bay chapter of the Climate Reality Project was launched in May 2023. As reported by Sara Rubin in the Monterey County Weekly on 5/22/23, the new chapter plans to:
bring together existing organizations that are active in different realms of climate advocacy—from 🚲bicycling to EV charging stations to marine protection

Did you know? The transportation sector accounts for about 40% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions (more details: https://bikemonterey.org/climate-change-why-speak-up-for-cycling-at-cop28-and-elsewhere.html). Bicycling helps reduce the environmental impact of transportation while improving public health and strengthening communities.
Caring for the earth—including taking action on climate change!—is among the multiple benefits of bicycling mentioned by people in Voices of People Who Bike, Part I. We appreciate everyone who bikes to get about, whenever they are able, e.g., the people below.

Window on the Bay Park has typically been the site for Fridays for Future climate action gatherings. It was also the location for the June 30, 2023 End-Dependence Day action in Monterey. (A simultaneous action was held by the chapter in Santa Cruz too.)
Window on the Bay Park—see photo gallery below — is directly alongside the coastal rec trail, parallel to Del Monte Avenue between Camino El Estero and Camino Aguajito. If you’re able, please use people-powered transportation to get there —🚲🚶🏾♀️🛹🛴🧑🏾🦽bike, walk, skate, scoot, or roll, even if use of a bike-and-ride option is necessary too.
