Shawn Carden of Salinas:

BMX World Championships Competitor

Since the age of five, Shawn Carden has been riding BMX bikes.  Now 18 and a student at Salinas High School, Shawn is off to England on May 21, 2012 to compete for the USA BMX Team  in the 2012 BMX World Championships!

This event offers the biggest annual prize in BMX racing, with the world’s best riders competing to wear the coveted rainbow stripes for the year ahead. It’s also the last event where countries can earn points as they strive for a place at the London Olympics in 2012.

The events take place May 24-27 at the Birmingham, United Kingdom National Indoor Arena.  Shawn is a racer for the Eight01 Racing Team based in Utah.  He qualified for this international competition by virtue of placing 6th (see USACycling.org) in the 17-24 age class at the USA BMX National Race in Chula Vista, CA on the weekend of March 30-April 1.

Appreciation for trainer Jacques Mercadal

Shawn has come a long way as a BMX rider, and he attributes the training skills of Jacques Mercadal of Marina, CA for keeping him fit and progressing as an athlete.  Jacques is owner of The Stunning Image and also works as a trainer at Gold’s Gym at Creek Bridge Village in Salinas.

Congratulations, Shawn, and

best wishes at the BMX World Championships!
