May 31, 2026: Bike chat on Bluegrass Sunday
Bike Month (May) events in many counties around the state and nation sometimes include Bike to Worship rides—biking to churches, mosques, synagogues, and other houses of worship.
Celebrate Bike Month by joining us at a Monterey church on May 31, 2026. Can’t bike there but wanna socialize with youth and adults who bike, or even people who just want to be bike-friendly drivers? Join us for a Bike Chat after church. Details below.

MAY 31 DESTINATION: Gospel bluegrass Sunday at solar-powered, bike-friendly (bike rack by sanctuary’s front door) First Presbyterian Church, 501 El Dorado, Monterey (https://fpcmonterey.org/, a Presbyterian Church USA congregation https://pcusa.org/about-pcusa/who-we-are/social-witness). Everyone is welcome at FPC.
We’ll go to the 11am service. There’s a 9am service too. And there’s a free pancake breakfast that happens May 31 between services (10-11am).
Do you have a cargo bike, family bike, or other bicycle too large for FPC’s bike rack? Bicycling Monterey will be happy to provide complimentary bike valet service; simply let us know you’ll need bike valet.
PREFER JUST CHURCH OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS? If you prefer to skip the church service, no problem. You’re welcome to hang out in the Jay Bartow Memorial Garden during the service and stick around to connect with us after the 11am service.
Bicycling Monterey plans to host a short “bike chat” in the garden about 12:15pm. Anyone is welcome to the bike chat, even if they didn’t bike to FPC. Discussion topics will range from sharing favorite and least favorite things about biking to bike laws to local cycling resources to bike-friendly driving tips.
We’ll have a few FREE giveaways too, i.e., energy chews and such, misc stickers, and three youth helmets for the first three teens who show up and say they need a new helmet.
Questions? As our Contact page indicates, be sure to leave a message if we can’t pick up your call immediately.

ARCHIVED NOTE re: 5/31/26: If you’d like to join a bike train (meet up en route and bike there together), please PHONE us by noon on Friday, May 29 for bike train’s final pick-up stations and departure times, or for other questions. Planned pick-up stations include Olmsted Road at Hwy 68, Fairground Road at Garden Road, Santa Catalina entrance on Mark Thomas Drive, and Monterey Peninsula College campus. Pick-up stations may possibly be modified based on the needs of those who respond by May 29. All minors on our rides must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Everyone rides at their own risk, and those biking with us are to follow California bike laws, including helmet requirement for minors; helmets are encouraged for adults too.
