Cannery Row IMAX Hosts California Premiere of Ride the Divide

The Cannery Row IMAX—a charter participant in HER Helmet Thursdayshosted the California premiere of a new award-winning cycle film on Opening Day of Sea Otter Classic.  This exclusive showing came on the heels of Ride the Divide’s world premiere at the Vail Film Fest, April 2-4, where the feature-length documentary was honored as Best Adventure Film.

[Update:  Monterey County cyclist Devian Gilbert took on the next Ride the Divide challenge!]

Q & A in Monterey

Cast and filmmakers, including cyclists Matthew Lee and Mary Metcalf Collier (with her 3-month old baby in tow), cyclist/Executive Producer Mike Dion, and Director Hunter Weeks were at the Cannery Row IMAX for a question-and-answer session after the show.

The Monterey County Herald announced Ride the Divide as a Best Bet for 4/15-21 entertainment.  And Stuart Thornton of the Monterey County Weekly reviewed the film. From my own experiencing of viewing it, I recommend it as a cycling film that even non-racers will enjoy.

[Dec 11, 2010 important update: As reported in the Monterey County Herald on Dec 9, 2010, and as reported by  Cannery Row IMAX management to this project, the IMAX is closed–hopefully temporarily.   The discounts mentioned in this Spring 2010 post are thus no longer available.  Thank you.]

As a charter participant in Monterey County’s new HER Helmet Thursdays project, Cannery Row IMAX gives a discount on Thursdays to anyone who bikes there, and walks in with their bicycle helmet as evidence.  And their discount (15% off regular admission) was in effect for Ride the Divide.

You can get a discount on advance tickets for any Thursday show at the Cannery Row IMAX by biking over to purchase them at the IMAX box office any day of the week.  You’ll pay only $10.20 for a $12 ticket.

Sorry, no bike-there discount for advance tickets purchased online http://www.bellacinema.com or by phone, 831-372-IMAX.  The necessary policy requires that tickets be purchased in person to get the discount.

Nonetheless, if you bike to a show for which you purchased tickets online or by phone, regardless of no theatre discount, your effort is appreciated.   And there are plenty of other HER Helmet Thursdays participants right there on Cannery Row, and in the adjacent New Monterey neighborhood, where cyclists can get a discount on a meal, wine sales, or even a spa treatment before or after the film. Thursday night lodging discounts too!  For the convenience of visitors to the area, those spots are listed below.
