About the original domain name
The Bicycling Monterey work is quite different from founder Mari Lynch’s professional work (finewordworking.com a.k.a. marilynch.com). So why was the original domain name (and the original root URL for Bicycling Monterey posts and pages) marilynch.com/blog?
From “The Change Agent” by Kera Abraham in the Monterey County Weekly’s first special bike issue, May 12-18, 2011: “What started as Dehmler’s [Mari Lynch Dehmler’s] blog two years ago quickly evolved into an umbrella website for all things two-wheeled in Monterey County.”
Click here for how that evolved—or here’s a summary: In May 2009, in conjunction with direct outreach on the bikeways, Mari posted on her blog Tips for Tourists Bicycling Monterey. That soon grew into Tips for Bicycling Monterey County, a 20-Section Guide for Tourists and Locals. Non-bike topics continued to be included for the next few months. Before the end of 2009, the blog had rapidly evolved into a bicycling advocacy website. It served as the home of the HER Helmet Thursdays Project, launched November 2009, one of what would become many Bicycling Monterey projects.
Since this website now featured almost nothing but bicycling-related content, alternate domain names were added, beginning in November 2009. Domain names currently include the primary domain name, https://bikemonterey.org, as well as alternate domain names bicyclingmonterey.com, bicyclingmonterey.org, and tipsfortourists.com.
Broken links often result from website redesigns and domain name or other URL changes. For the first decade, the root URL for Bicycling Monterey posts and pages remained the original domain name, https://marilynch.com/blog. As the second decade got underway, the process was begun for changing the root URL of all posts and pages to https://bikemonterey.org.
What is marilynch.com? https://marilynch.com, also accessed via finewordworking.com, is the web address for Mari’s business, Fine Wordworking, based in Monterey County since 1981.
