Beach Range Road Trail Closure
Begins Monday, April 11
The segment of bicycling and walking trail on Beach Range Road at the Fort Ord Dunes State Park in Marina will be closed from April 11th through April 13th for construction work. For safety reasons, there will be no access to the trail inside the park. Bicyclists, walkers and other trail users are encouraged to use the recreation trail, parallel to Highway 1, for the duration.
Improving the existing four-mile paved Beach Range Road into a multi-use bicycle and pedestrian path was one of the projects identified in the Transportation Agency’s Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Plan. Beach Range Road is a former military access road within the Fort Ord Dunes State Park. It parallels, but is located west of the existing Recreation Trail. Beach Range Road will offer users a greater separation from traffic on Highway 1 and provide connection to the future Monterey Branch Line station at 8th Street. Improvements will include slurry seal, striping and signage, and safety items. Areas of interest along the path will also be highlighted with interpretive panels, and picnic tables and bicycle racks will be installed.
Cost of the improvement is approximately $282,000. Project partners include Congressman Sam Farr, Transportation Agency for Monterey County, California State Parks, and California Department of Transportation.
