Salinas Road/Highway 1 Detour Begins: Tips for Bicyclists

Heads-up from Kaki Cheung, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator at the Transportation Agency of Monterey County:
Please download PDFs provided below of a news release on the Highway 1/Salinas Road interchange project detour.  Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, August 15, 2011.
  • Bicyclists traveling southbound into Monterey County are advised to use the McGowan-Trafton-Bluff-Jensen route.
  • For bicyclists going northbound to Santa Cruz County, bicyclists will not be able to access Salinas Road at Highway 1 during the temporary detour.  For those who are comfortable with making a left turn on Jensen Road, bicyclists can take Jensen to Bluff, then Trafton and McGowan to Santa Cruz.  There will be an 8′ shoulder on the detour route, and bicyclists will have the same turning restrictions as cars.
