Butterfly Criterium Returns to Pacific Grove on June 6
With men’s races, women’s races, and children’s races too, this year’s return of the Butterfly Criterium is bound to be another popular Monterey County cycling event. It’s been planned as an eco-friendly event too, with use of organics and compostable materials, and a carbon-neutral policy.
For volunteer opportunities, registration info, and other details, please visit the Ghost Tree Racing website.
The event is presented by the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce and the Ghost Tree Racing and VOS Racing teams.
Subject to availability, participating children receive medals and passes from MY Museum/Monterey Youth Museum, a participant in the countywide HER Helmet Thursdays project.

Eating out while you’re at the Butterfly Criterium? Although the event is on a Sunday, not a Thursday, you may still want to support the extra-bike friendly businesses and organizations in Pacific Grove who are all charter participants in the HER Helmet Thursdays project.
For details, including tips on bicycling to their locations, see the HER Helmet Thursdays detailed listings. All participants in the HER Helmet Thursdays project give discounts to cyclists on Thursdays. What’s the HER about? HER refers to H-E-R businesses and organizations (Hotels, Educational/Entertainment, and Restaurants).
As of 6/3/10, these Pacific Grove restaurants are in the project:
- China Garden
- Favaloro’s Big Night Bistro
- First Awakenings
- Fishwife
- Passionfish
- Pepper’s Mexicali Cafe
- Petra
- Point Pinos Grill
- 17th Street Grille
- Toasties
If you visit these places on June 6–or any day–please let them know you appreciate their support for bicycling in Monterey County!
