Bike Boxes for safer intersections
A BIKE BOX is an area at the head of traffic lanes that is designated for people on bicycles. It gives bicyclists a way to get ahead of cars in a safer, visible manner while waiting for a traffic signal to turn from red light to green light.
Short of bikeways with a physical barrier, bike boxes at intersections are some of our favorite infrastructure treatments. We urge having them at every appropriate intersection in Monterey County!
