HIGHWAY 1 CARMEL TO CAMBRIA PROJECT UPDATE
MONTEREY COUNTY:
§ Placement of hot mix asphalt overlay on 3 ½ miles of existing highway continues from about 12
miles south of Big Sur just north of Burns Creek Bridge to south of Partington Ridge Road.
One-way traffic control is in effect with daytime work hours tomorrow, Oct. 29 and overnight work next week from 6 pm to 6 am. Work is scheduled to complete by Friday, Nov. 5, weather permitting.
§ Construction on a retaining wall project near Gamboa Point, three miles north of Lucia is completed including striping.
§ Traffic continues down to one lane just south of Lucia at Dani Creek with a temporary signal in
place for soundwall installation. Work hours are from 7 am to 5 pm daily with work expected to be
completed at the end of summer of 2011. Cyclists traveling southbound are required to press the
signal button to activate a longer period to safely get through the narrow one-way uphill
section.
§ The temporary signal about two miles south of Lucia at Pitkins Curve/Rain Rocks for the
bridge/rockshed project remains in operation 24/7 with the project expected to be complete in
winter 2012/2013.
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY: No projects currently under construction along this stretch in SLO County.
