Adieu, Mazda. Welcome, WeatherTech.

The County of Monterey and WeatherTech of Bolingbrook, Illinois have announced a naming rights agreement for the sports and entertainment facility known the past 17 years as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. As of April 2018, the track will be known as WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Details: http://mailchi.mp/mazdaraceway/weathertech-raceway-naming-rights
While many know the track for its car and motorcycle racing, people who bike especially appreciate it for bicycling events. Among those are the world-renowned annual Sea Otter Classic—a 4-day Celebration of Cycling, and…

monthly Twilight Rides

as well as occasional events such as Amgen Tour of California.

Besides those…
Many visitors and locals have other bicycle memories at the track (e.g., May 2013: Hammerstein 8- and 24-Hour Mountain Bike Race).
Monterey County bicycling community leaders, including Bicycling Monterey, look forward to continued bicycling activities and events at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Welcome to Monterey County, WeatherTech.

By the way, we noticed your About statement, including:

“Recognizable American brands have been forced by shortsighted management and buyers at large national chains to build factories overseas just to save a lousy $.50 on a tape measure. To these ruthless buyers, it is all about the money. Rarely are product quality, the political system, human rights, animal rights and environmental costs to the planet considered.”

We dig, being especially well aware regarding environmental costs, from Circle of Poison to bicycle manufacturing.

Language Resources and Celebrations, plus Guess-Their-Country Game

—and we note you appreciate international relationships too—we share your preference to buy local as much as possible.

Bicycling Monterey makes a huge effort to support local businesses, including local bike shops. That includes, to date, that Bicycling Monterey’s founder has never purchased anything via Amazon (see a Monterey County Weekly article by Jim Hightower,”Amazon’s aggressive practices are crushing Main Street retailers and changing the way people buy everything.” Also still the case is that Bicycling Monterey has chosen to have no Amazon affiliate links on this website since founded May 2009. (In addition, all information on this website May 2009-May 2019 has been provided solely as a public service, with no financial payment for affiliate links of any kind. For related policies, click here.)

Thank you.
